IMPORTING INTO THE UK
We have been importing and registering EU & third country vehicles in the UK for over a decade. A few details have changed since Brexit, but the fundamentals are still the same.
To import a vehicle a customs declaration is now required for each vehicle, a notification of vehicle arrival (N.O.V.A.) declaration and at the point of import/declaration a vat liability will be raised against the vehicle (normally 5% on classic cars). This is due immediately and is normally paid by us to speed up the process.
For example a classic car or vehicle of historic interest over 30 years old bought for £1000 will attract the following fee’s
- £90 declaration
- 5% Vat = £50
Total cost: £1140
After which depending on the age of the vehicle you may need to submit it for a roadworthiness test before finally paying the £55 first registration fee to D.V.L.A.
Please note: if you have your own agent or are temporarily importing your vehicle we can still provide transport services. If you require customs declarations submitted on your behalf make sure to inform us of your requirements.
